Manila, Philippines – “Did Mr. President just broke his silence or is he still in an idle mode? We have waited one week for his statement on Kidapawan massacre but he came out with one sketchy, insensible remark.”

This was the reaction of the fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) after President Aquino broke his silence a week after the fateful Kidapawan massacre happened.

Aquino said in a statement yesterday that he just learned that there were protesting drought-affected farmers in Kidapawan but he didn’t say any significant statement on how he would address the farmers’ plights.

The commander-in-chief is once again washing his hands of a crime involving him and his political allies. His delayed and senseless remark on Kidapawan carnage is a complete disregard of the farmers’ clamor for support and justice in the hope it would wither away.” Salvador France, Pamalakaya vice-chairperson said in a statement.

Pamalakaya is outraged on how President Aquino diverted the issue on him, whining how his body has badly reacted from the hard work he is facing everyday.

It’s all about himself again. We are infuriated with how this insensitive President belittled the farmer’s issues as if his health condition and his claim of hard work could make up and pay for the crime he and his allies committed against the farmers. So he wanted to say that he is in the same boat as the farmers who suffered from El Nino? He wanted us to take pity on him?”

Aquino once again showed his criminal neglect and gross stupidity on facing the people’s just demands. He hasn’t failed to follow his family’s bloody legacy against the peasantry. We will make sure he won’t get away with his crime against the Filipino people. We will not stop until justice will be served to the Kidapawan farmers.” France ended. ###
