Manila, Philippines – As Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is set to be proclaimed as the new President of the Republic of the Philippines, the fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) challenged him to prosecute outgoing President Noynoy Aquino and his unscrupulous officials for the various crimes they have committed against the Filipino people.

Salvador France, Pamalakaya Vice Chairperson said: “We believe in Mayor Duterte’s call for a healing process in the name of unity, but such unity will remain futile and hollow if social justice will not be served.”

The prosecution and eventual imprisonment of Aquino and his ilk should be done not within 6 months but right after Duterte’s first 100 days in the office.

He should prioritize to indict the big-time criminals such as the likes of Aquino, Abad and Drilon which are all involved in one of the biggest corruption scandal ever recorded in the Philippine history.” France said.

Among the crimes listed by PAMALAKAYA were the misuse and plunder of public funds through the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), which the Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional.

The theft of the billions of funds for the rehabilitation of super typhoon Yolanda victims, which to date has yet to complete the 15,000 targeted permanent houses and rehabilitation for the victims despite the pouring donations from the international communities and organizations. The fisherfolk group also wants presumptive President Duterte to investigate where those billions of Yolanda rehabilitation funds went.

And the latest is the bloody dispersal of drought–hit farmers of Kidapawan who were merely asking for food relief from the government but were met instead with bullets, killing instantly three farmers and wounding 70 others.

Aquino’s six years of Presidency was checkered with corruption and plunder, human rights violations, sheer incompetence, criminal negligence and complete disregard to the people’s just demands.”

We challenge President Duterte that if he is really sincere in providing social justice to the Filipino people who gravely suffered from ‘daang matuwid’, he should heed the people’s sentiments on the urgent and unconditional prosecution of the Aquino and his ilk, sparing no one.” France ended. ###
