‘Don’t let Trump sweep you off your feet’ – PAMALAKAYA to President Duterte
Manila, Philippines – The militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA-Pilipinas) on Thursday said President Rodrigo Duterte should maintain its stance against the United States (U.S.) intervention in the country despite Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s victory on the U.S. Presidential Elections against his rival Hillary Clinton yesterday.
Even as the names and faces change, the worsening chronic crisis of the rotten U.S. capitalist system that also aggravates domestic crisis will still prevail. The U.S. will still impose its unequal economic and military agreements over its colonies to maintain its global dominance and superpower.
“President Duterte should be determined to stand out against the United States’ political, economic and military meddling in our country even as the President of the United States will be replaced. Unless the systematic capitalist and oppressive form of U.S. government will not be transformed into a genuine democratic one, America will always be on its puppeteer rule as usual,” Fernando Hicap, PAMALAKAYA Chairperson said in a statement.
PAMALAKAYA said President Duterte should still pursue on promoting an independent and patriotic foreign policy that will break the country’s chain from decades-old colonial control by first abrogating all the unequal military treaties with the U.S. like the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).
“Imperial rule with exploitation is already embedded under the current capitalist path the U.S. is taking. If President Duterte is already fed up by the continuing intervention of the U.S. in our foreign and domestic affairs, he should stand firm on its position to separate our country from U.S. and other foreign control and contend for a patriotic foreign policy that will promote genuine independence that we all long for,” Hicap ended. ###
