Manila, Philippines – The militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA-Pilipinas) expresses its full support on the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte to resign as a President of the Philippines for according to him, he is not happy anymore in his position.

President Duterte during his speech at the 17th founding anniversary of Digos in Davao del Sur on Friday confessed that he is no longer happy being a President and he wants to resign.

If he thinks that he is not happy anymore and that he’s already a detriment to the people which he actually is, then it is of our pleasure to throw support to his resignation as President of the Republic,” Fernando Hicap, PAMALAKAYA Chairperson said in a statement.

For more than one year, his presidency has taken its heavy toll to the Filipino people through his numerous repressive campaigns and attacks against ordinary civilians. First is his bloody war on drugs which is now taking the lives of our youth; the all out war policy which targets the democratic rights of farmers and fishers in the countryside; and his disastrous war in Marawi City under the banner of Martial Law that displaced hundreds of thousands of Moro people and resulted to undocumented deaths and human rights abuses,” added Hicap.

The group is also dismayed by how President Duterte abandons his promise of free land distribution to farmers.

“Aside from his intense offensives, he has failed his promise to the peasantry for genuine land reform, much more now that Rafael Mariano who promotes the interest of farmers has been rejected as secretary to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)”,

“Duterte’s blood-tainted iron fist has already taken the lives of thousands of his people. He has subscribed to fascism style of ruling that his beloved Ferdinand Marcos had imposed to Filipino people for two decades,”

“We have all the reason enough to endorse his pronouncement to step down to his post,” ended Hicap. ###
