Group hits Duterte’s “open admission of treason”

Manila, Philippines — “Although we weren’t surprised by Mr. Duterte’s defeatist stand on sea row, he still deserves a strong public condemnation over admission of treason and continuous violation of the constitution. He is nothing but undeserving head a sovereign nation,” This was the response of the militant fishers group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Piipinas (PAMALAKAYA) to President Rodrigo Duterte, saying he was “inutile” to Chinese aggression in the Philippine waters, during his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday.

PAMALAKAYA slammed what they said as “usual linking of the assertion of sovereign rights to engaging a war with the China”.

“Nobody wants to have a war with any country. What we demand is justice and for the rights of Filipino fishers to be respected in our own territorial waters. We can have that sans armed confrontation, only political will from the government and devotion to advance the interest and welfare of the sovereignty and people. Apparently, Mr. Duterte is submissive to foreign powers as reflected not only by his foreign policies to China, now with an open declaration of puppetry and treason,” Fernando Hicap, PAMALAKAYA National Chairperson said in a statement. ###
