PAMALAKAYA’s reaction to DPWH planning to install breakwater to hold the dolomite sands

“Wouldn’t breakwater a sore thumb to the Manila Bay’s famous sunset?

While breakwaters may be able to hold some of the dolomite sands, these do not guarantee that it would totally and effectively impede the water flow and prevent the dolomite sands from washing out.

Moreover, this plan is a 180-degree turn to the ultimate goal of Manila Bay rehabilitation. It is a government’s manifestation that they are leaning towards beautification, and abandoning their supposed mandate to restore its marine ecosystem.

Installation of breakwaters, which could be regarded as a troubleshooting measure, manifests lack of research and planning of the beach nourishment altogether.

But sure the government can troubleshoot all they want, and they will still miss what Manila Bay really needs. Thus a waste of funds, one after another,” Fernando Hicap, PAMALAKAYA National Chairperson. ###
