Manila, Philippines – “This may be Duterte’s ultimate nightmare yet a welcome development for the Filipinos seeking justice and accountability from his terror reign. The ICC full probe is a critical step towards recovering the many counts of the Duterte regime’s high crimes against humanity that stemmed from the bloody war on drugs among other state policies that fuel grave human rights abuses,” according to the militant fishers’ group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) on Thursday, welcoming the International Criminal Court’s full investigation into the extrajudicial killings under President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement, PAMALAKAYA national chairperson Fernando Hicap said that the ICC investigation “deserves the full support of the Filipino people who are being terrorized by the mass murderer government”.
“Moreover, this behooves the independent and international human rights mechanisms to closely monitor the crucial developments of the investigation from trial stages up to Duterte’s sentence. Seeing Duterte along with his murderer ganglands in prison is worthy to look forward to,” Hicap, former Anakpawis Party-list representative said in a statement.
“Let this be a reminder to Duterte and to those who wish to follow his trail of blood that heinous crimes rooted from grave abuse of power will never go unpunished,” ended Hicap. ###
